what made you want a pet??
I have always loved animals! I was one of those little kids that brought home every stray they came across. So, I have always had pets.

when you were looking for a pet, what made you decide to get the one you have??
The ones I have now? I have four. Three are dachshund mixes I got them because my neighbor had one and I thought it was a neat dog so I adopted three. LOL One was from a puppy mill and the other two are from shelters. I also have a beagle that belonged to my son he couldn't keep it so I took it.

have you ever given a pet to someone else, if so why??
No, I have never given a pet away. Once they are mine I consider them my responsibility.

when your pet is not around what reminds you of them??
When I see other dogs that are the same breed or have the same quirky habits as mine.

what kind of relationship do you have with your pet??
The way my daughter describes it is my dogs don't even know they are dogs. they think they are my children.

what do you feel your pet gives you??
My dogs give so much. They are there to comfort me if I'm sad. They are the source of many hours of entertainment with their silly antics and they give unconditional love.

What made you want a pet?

You know what? My husband is the one who wanted a dog. I didn't. Once we had one dog, my husband wanted another dog to keep the one dog company when we weren't home.

When you were looking for a pet, what made you decide to get the one you have?

We knew we were going to adopt a dog from the pound. We went there and looked at all the dogs. We wished we could rescue them all, but our dog just appealed to us the most. We sort of felt like he was already ours, when we first saw him.

Have you ever given a pet to someone else, if so why?

Yeah, I lost an apartment once and had to give my cat to a friend's mom, because I wouldn't be able to have her at the place I had to live next.

When your pet is not around what reminds you of them?

My husband's constantly watching the clock when we aren't home is a constant reminder that our dogs are home and in the house and might have an accident on the carpet if we leave them there too long.

What kind of relationship do you have with your pet?

With my cat, I was her mom. With our dogs, I started out being their mom, but now we are more like buddies. I am often amazed at how well they can smell food messes in unlikely places. They do an awesome job helping me keep these cleaned up!

What do you feel your pet gives you?

Our dogs give me an added sense of safety and security (as well as help cleaning the dishes and the floor!).

This sort of looks like my dog, the second one we got, to keep my husband's dog company:

Hey Edward! This is a great idea to research and delve into. I hope my answers help you.

So, you want to know what made me want a pet? I'm not sure. I think it was because all my friends had cats or dogs and I was never allowed to have one. There was no clear reason as to why not, so naturally, as a child, this made me want one even more. Also, ever since I was little, I found cats incredibly cute. I was never a dog person, because they were normally bigger and I was probably threatened or scared by them. Cats seemed harmless and innocent, something I could take care of. I like taking care of people and things.

Your next question is: When you were looking for a pet, what made you decide to get the one you have? Well, there was a litter of kittens down the street from me, and the people who lived there were just giving them away. My dad finally agreed to take me down there to look, and just to look! But he finally gave in to their cuteness and said yes. The reason I picked my Vincent was because he looked a little strange and the kids who lived there called him alien-face. I think I partially identified with him, being a little isolated and different myself, plus I thought he was adorable!

To answer your next question, I have never given a pet away to anyone! That would break my heart. Luckily my two cats are male, so we haven't had to give away any kittens. We may need to give our current cats to a shelter or something when we move out, because I don't think our apartment complex allows pets. That will be a sad day.

When my pet is not around, it's basically other cats that remind me of him. I don't see my can all over the place or anything. Occasionally seeing a stray cat roaming around, particularly one with certain characteristics of Vinnie, makes me miss him.

My relationship with my two cats are completely different. I love Vinnie the most, but he is outdoors all the time, and when he's inside all he wants is food. He is standoffish but I still love him and think he's adorable. Now my other cat, Turk, is incredibly annoying. He always wants attention and climbs up to cuddle with me while I'm working. He purrs constantly, which I adore, but his dog-like qualities bother me a little. I try to be nice to him, but I have to admit, I don't like him as much as Vinnie.

What do you feel your pet gives you? I feel like Turk gives me love. Vinnie doesn't give me anything, but he also doesn't take much away, so it works out. All he needs is a bowl of food and water and he's fine all day. All in all, having pets is very rewarding because they just make me happy.

what made you want a pet??

I have a giant alaskan malamute and a maine coon. I didn't actually want the cat, I found him in a parking lot. I wanted to help him and learned to love him. As for the dog I wanted a companion dog for my son and I don't do little dogs. I wanted what I consider a real dog, Fenris is just that.

when you were looking for a pet, what made you decide to get the one you have??

Size, temperament and appearance. The malamute fit my needs and desires in a dog.

have you ever given a pet to someone else, if so why??

Many many pets. I've always been a sucker for strays. I take them in fix um up and find them good homes. I can't count how many times as a kid i gave my room to kittens and even a duckling once. (I had a dog at the time that hated other animals and wouldn't sleep in a different room than me.)

when your pet is not around what reminds you of them??

The cat... whining. He's very whiny and often actually sounds like a baby crying.
The dog.. meat. Not sure why, maybe it's because I always feed him scraps...

what kind of relationship do you have with your pet??

I wouldn't say I have one with the cat.. he's borderline feral.. doesn't like to be indoors.
The dog views me as mom cause I got him young and well I am the mom of our family. He knows a goofy look will get him out of trouble most the time but that I'm still the boss.

what do you feel your pet gives you??

Protection and companionship.

I have 4 English Bulldogs and I absolutely LOVE them. I love each one of them because they are so loving and great to be around. I find dogs and pets therapeutic. They never get mad or angry and they love you no matter what. My dogs sense when I am upset and come close to me, snuggle up and it honestly seems like they try to cheer me up. Each of my dogs has their own personality. One of our 4 English Bulldogs is my 17 year old sons and she acts just like him. She is silly and seems like she is always trying to get us to laugh. One of our Bulldogs is my 13 year old daughters and she goes in my daughters room and seriously karaoke's with her. I will hear my daughter singing and Bella howling. The other two dogs are very mellow and total snuggle bunnies. We wanted our English Bulldogs for years, and it took us a while to save up for them. I always thought English Bulldogs were neat dogs to have, they are adorable and I thought they were very smart, and they are. Almost TOO smart at times. Our dogs are part of our family, they do not think they are dogs, they think they are kids. Simply put they bring us unconditional love!

what made you want a pet??

I have always loved animals ever since I can remember. I grew up on a farm, so I was even used to petting even cows and ducks. My first pet was a tabby kitty cat. I remember my grandmother told me if I could catch her, then I could have her. I spent an entire day, I mean entire day trying to catch that cat. I finally did and took her home. My grandmother confessed to me later that she didn’t want to part with the cat and didn’t believe I could catch it. So my new found love was my grandmothers loss. I wanted the championship that a pet offered. I was the only girl child.

when you were looking for a pet, what made you decide to get the one you have??

All of my pets have usually either been given to me or just came about. I did buy one dog when I was in my twenties. Usually I find a stray or someone has a pet they no longer can care for. I think it’s best to give these animals homes than buy them if possible.

have you ever given a pet to someone else, if so why??

I gave a kitten to lady once and she told me a few weeks later that it got hit by a car. It really saddened me.

when your pet is not around what reminds you of them??

When I get stressed I think about pets I’ve had that reduced my stress. I also think about them when I am scared. Somehow having a pet, even a tiny kitten or puppy makes me feel secure.

what kind of relationship do you have with your pet??

I’ve always had a loving relationship with my pets. However, I do try to let them know that they need to obey me, but I am not the strictest by any means.

what do you feel your pet gives you??

Love, affection, championship, security, support and comfort. My pets have always known when something is wrong with me and they do more than their part to comfort me and make me feel better. Plus they don’t tell secrets.

This is a great question!

The thing that made me want a pet, is that I grew up with one my whole entire childhood, so I wanted that for my child. I also knew that I am more of a cat person so that is when I first got my cat, Irie, and then my wife decided to get a dog and we named him whitey. Whitey is a pit bull and was solid white when we got him. I am pretty attached to my pets. Especially my cat, I always give them some of what I am getting, and they sleep right next to my wife and I. They are our babies just as our actual children!

Thanks again for this question, it was a fun one to answer!
