Some people keep bugs or arachnids as pets simply because they like them and find them interesting. People keep reptiles, amphibians, cats, dogs and rodents for the same reason; each person has a preference when it comes to the type of animal they want to share their space with.
My cousin keeps tarantulas as pets and no, he doesn’t pet them. Most arachnid and bug owners don’t pet their animals because those types of animals generally aren’t comfortable with being petted like we would think of petting a dog or cat.
Arachnid owners can most definitely get emotionally attached to their pets. While arachnids don’t show affection like some other pets do, they still require a good deal of care and maintenance. It’s easy to get emotionally attached to something that you have time invested in.
