Pets give us love, shed-loads of love, unconditional love. They care not if you look terrible, have a rotten cold, need a shower, are feeling happy or sad or bad tempered, they just love you.
Our fellow humans can never give us this type of love. Pets are amusing, they make us laugh with their antics, they help us to exercise, especially if the pet is a dog who needs to be walked.

Whether it be a dog, cat, bird, cow, etc... compassion and love can come from the companionship and caring for a pet. Not only that, it can come from receiving attention, understanding, friendship and loyalty from the pet. I will admit that some people do go over board, at least in my eyes. I do understand what is to love a pet as well.
When I was a little girl I can remember saying to my cat "I love you forever, you never tell my secrets and you always put a smile on my face... you're my best friend" In a world where people are not dependable, not responsible and have lost compassion, pets remain loyal. Besides, they are so cute and cuddly.
