If I refer to my own personal spirit as my "soul" then how can I look into the eyes of an animal, which clearly has the spark of life within it, and think it's spirit is less then my own?
Therefore in my personal opinion all my animal brothers and sisters have their own personal spirit, or soul if you prefer.
Once a person respects and acknowledges the spirit of our animal brothers and sisters that person can enrich their own spirit via the connection.
Many people would say,"prove it".
My answer to that is, I do not need to prove my faith for it is prove enough in of itself and satisfies my personal spiritual being.

With regards to the destiny of man and animals it was said in Ecclesiastes 12:7 "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was; and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it"
Common sense tell us that if one's possesses life, one must also have a soul. "Men and animals alike possess a soul in the sense of breath (nephesh). However, in the sense of possessing a part or element that lives forever, as man possesses, animals do not possess an eternal spirit."
Man is tasked to take care of animals acting as a shepherd of God's creation.
