Do horses only eat hay?

Is there other food I should give my horse? Can horses eat grain?

Not all horses need grain - some get Founder if you give them grain - there are lots of things you can feed horses, bran mash for example..

if your horse is thin and working hard or pregnant it should get oats.. if its a pony or miniature horse and is fat NO OATS!

I feed my horses hay and grain. They have free choice of hay. I feed grain twice a day. I feed 2 1/2 lbs twice a day. A horse can only process approx. 5lbs of grain a day. If you feed them anymore than that their system cannot properly process the grain. During the winter we add about a 1/4 cup of veggie oil to the feed to give them a little extra fat to their diet. We also mix in some beet pulp if we want to add a little extra weight to them.
